Beijing Adventure

So I forgot to write about my evening adventure in Beijing. I went with a group in to Beijing - doing some shopping and we had a nice Mexican dinner in downtown Beijing ;) But the group decided to head out to a bar, so me and another girl decided it was time to head home - it was around 9:30pm. So we get out of the subway terminal and decided to find out if the buses back to our stop were running. And of course they definitely weren't running. So we faced a 45 minute ride back to our stop in a taxi. But first we had to find a taxi! Luckily I had thought to get our address in Chinese characters from another intern - and some money. So after walking back down dark streets (with some friendly gawking from our Chinese friends...) after not finding any buses, we got into one taxi and I showed him our address and asked in Chinese if he would take us there. He told me no but that I should ask someone else. So here I was a little scared because I figured no taxi would want to leave central Beijing to drive all the way out to Shunyi district :( But we approached a group of taxis with their lounging drivers and in my awesome (read: sucky) Chinese I asked if someone would take us to our address. One of the drivers (a "siji" if you'd like to learn some Chinese ;) ) took it from me and discussed with his fellow drivers and told me that he would take us. Success! So we nervously got in and prayed that we were going to correct way, that it wouldn't cost too much, that our driver wouldn't kill us by not following all those silly traffic laws, etc. But we survived, and it only cost 60 Yuan, which between was 5 American dollars each. So all in all, it was a good adventure ;)
